ENERGYORLEN Launches New Gas Production Projects to Strengthen Domestic Supply and Energy Security

ORLEN has launched natural gas production from two new upstream projects located at the Jastrzębiec field in the Lublin region and the Sierosław field in western Poland. These investments are part of the company’s broader strategy to expand domestic production and are expected to contribute both to Poland’s energy security and to local economic development.

New sources of gas in Poland

According to the company, total output from the two fields is expected to reach approximately 140 million cubic meters of natural gas in the first year. Both projects have been designed as long-term operations, with production planned over more than a decade, gradually declining in line with typical reservoir performance.

The newly produced gas will be supplied to the energy sector, industry, and individual consumers. In the context of growing emphasis on energy diversification, the development of domestic resources is seen as an important factor in enhancing supply stability.

Benefits for local economies

ORLEN’s investments also carry significant local impact. Municipalities where extraction activities take place benefit from fees associated with production. This translates into additional revenue for local budgets, which can be used to support infrastructure development and public services.

Sierosław: mobile technology for smaller fields

The Sierosław field, located near the municipalities of Tarnowo Podgórne and Dopiewo, has been developed using a mobile production installation. The so-called “skid” system is a container-based solution that includes modules for gas separation, dehydration, and measurement.

Such technology is typically used for smaller fields, where building full-scale stationary infrastructure would not be economically viable. The mobility of the installation helps reduce investment costs and allows it to be relocated and reused at other sites once production is completed.

The Sierosław-2H well is expected to deliver around 40 million cubic meters of nitrogen-rich gas annually. The total reserves of the field are estimated at approximately 900 million cubic meters, supporting production over many years.

Jastrzębiec: larger-scale production

The Jastrzębiec field, located in the Biłgoraj area on the border of Tarnogród and Kuryłówka municipalities, offers significantly higher production potential. Five new wells have been brought online at the site.

At peak production, the field could increase Poland’s domestic gas output by around 100 million cubic meters annually. Total reserves are estimated at close to 1 billion cubic meters, enabling long-term exploitation.

Part of a broader growth strategy

The launch of the new wells is part of ORLEN’s long-term strategy aimed at systematically increasing domestic gas production. One of the company’s key objectives is to reach approximately 4 billion cubic meters of annual output by 2030.

Achieving this goal will rely on developing smaller deposits and optimizing costs through the use of existing infrastructure as well as modern, flexible extraction technologies.

ORLEN in the upstream market

ORLEN remains the largest energy and fuel group in Central and Eastern Europe, with upstream operations in eight countries across four continents.

At the end of 2025, the company’s total hydrocarbon reserves were estimated at 1,242 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE), of which around 75% consisted of natural gas. The largest share of these reserves is located in Poland, with significant assets also in Norway, Canada, and Pakistan.
