ENERGYORLEN Group increases investments in RES - new wind and photovoltaic farms with a capacity of 300 MW

ORLEN Wind 3, a company belonging to the ORLEN Group, has finalized the purchase of two photovoltaic farms located in Lubuskie and Wielkopolskie provinces, as well as a wind farm in the Lodz province, from EDP Renewables Polska. The acquired assets will enhance the group’s production capacity from renewable sources by a total of over 300 MW.

Thanks to the transaction, the ORLEN Group has increased their renewable energy capacity by almost a third. The group already has about 580 MW of installed capacity in onshore wind farms and over 350 MW in photovoltaics.

The farms acquired from EDP Renewables Polska are among the most modern units and will be capable of producing up to 400 GWh of energy annually, sufficient to power nearly 182,000 households.

The first photovoltaic farm, with a capacity of 40 MWp, located in Chotków in Lubuskie, was launched in January this year. The second one, located in the Przykona commune in Wielkopolskie, has a capacity of 200 MWp and is undergoing expansion by an additional 40 MWp. The completion of work is planned for the end of this year.

This is another investment by the ORLEN Group in renewable energy sources in the Wielkopolskie province. The provinces already host the Ujazd, Dobrzyca, Dominowo, and Przykona wind farms, with a total capacity of about 175 MW, as well as the Gryf photovoltaic farm with a capacity of 25 MW. In addition to large-scale investments in renewable energy sources, the ORLEN Group is also developing smaller installations to support the operation of its infrastructure. This year, a photovoltaic installation located at the fuel terminal in Ostrów Wielkopolski expanded the group’s asset portfolio by an additional 3 MW. Moreover, in the third quarter of 2023, Energa Wytwarzanie, a company belonging to the ORLEN Group, signed a preliminary agreement with Greenvolt for the Opalenica and Sompolno projects with a total capacity of 58 MW. The PV Mitra (65 MW) and Å»uki (2.4 MW) farms are also under construction.

As part of the transaction, the ORLEN Group also took over the “Warta” onshore wind farm, which was established in May last year in the Lodz province. The 26 MW investment is located in an area characterized by high wind intensity, ensuring a high degree of utilization of the installed capacity.

By the end of the decade, the ORLEN Group aims to reach a level of 9 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy sources. Apart from onshore wind farms and photovoltaic farms, the group is also actively developing offshore wind energy. The final preparations for installation work at sea include the production of key components of the Baltic Power project. Implemented jointly with Canadian partner Northland Power, this project will add a capacity of nearly 1.2 GW to the national energy system by 2026.
