COMPANIESORLEN Group Achieves Record LNG Sales in 2024: Nearly 244,000 Tons Delivered, Marking a 30% Increase

In 2024, ORLEN Group delivered nearly 244,000 tons of liquefied gas to its customers, an increase of almost 30 percent compared to the previous year. The LNG mainly comes from the terminal in Świnoujście, as well as the transshipment station in Klaipeda and their own production. The liquefied gas is provided to, among others, individual customers with limited access to the national network.

The main point of LNG sales for ORLEN Group is the terminal in Świnoujście, from which over 11,000 tankers left last year, providing customers with 197,000 tons of gas.

“The sales of small-scale LNG by the ORLEN Group in Poland is steadily growing. This confirms the attractiveness of the raw material itself as well as our commercial offer. Liquefied natural gas loaded on tankers provides access to low-emission fuel wherever the national gas pipeline network does not reach. On the other hand, the development of the small-scale LNG market supports the transformation of the Polish economy, in which gas plays an important role, providing the necessary amounts of energy,” said Grzegorz Bujnowski, Executive Director for Gas Trading.

Liquefied natural gas arriving at the terminal in Świnoujście is brought in by the company’s ships from countries such as the USA, Qatar, and Norway. Most of the cargo is regasified and injected in gaseous form into the transmission pipeline system. However, a part remains in liquid form, which allows the fuel to be transported to recipients by specialized tankers and cryogenic containers.

In addition to sales at the terminal in Świnoujście, the ORLEN Group also produces liquefied natural gas at its plants in Odolanów and Grodzisk Wielkopolski, and also conducts sales from the transshipment station in Klaipeda, which it has used since 2020. In 2024, the company put nearly 244,000 tons of LNG on the market: from the gas port in Świnoujście – 197,000 tons, from the plants in Odolanów and Grodzisk Wielkopolski – over 22,000 tons, from Klaipeda – 25,000 tons.

The main recipients of liquefied LNG are industrial customers from various sectors, but also individual consumers connected to island gas systems. These systems are not connected to the national network, so gas is delivered there in the form of LNG and then regasified at local regasification stations. LNG is also used in areas that have access to the national distribution network, but the demand for gas is greater than the supply possibilities of the existing pipelines. In such a case, LNG regasification stations supplement the gas supply in the network, fully meeting the needs of the recipients.
