ORLEN has completed a contract to deliver 100 million cubic meters of natural gas to Japan—one of the world’s largest LNG import hubs. The newly launched cooperation confirms ORLEN’s transport and trading capabilities and strengthens the Group’s position in the global LNG market. The counterpart in the deal is Osaka Gas, with the cargo delivered by ORLEN’s newest LNG carrier, Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
– “For the first time in history, ORLEN has delivered LNG to the Japanese market. We are consistently implementing the commitments set out in our strategy. While running our core business, we enhance the energy security and independence of the region. At the same time, we are expanding into markets where we have not previously been present. In this way, we broaden our growth opportunities and build value for our shareholders. The agreement with Osaka Gas is an important step in our foreign expansion, with potential for further cooperation,” said Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO of ORLEN.
The delivery scheduled for September 30 was handled by the Ignacy Jan Paderewski—the latest addition to ORLEN’s LNG fleet. This marks the 41st cargo handled by ORLEN’s London trading office with its own vessel, and the 15th this year alone. Scaling up operations and responding flexibly to market needs has been made possible by the Group’s logistics resources—currently six LNG carriers. Since the beginning of 2025, these vessels have already delivered around 700,000 tons of LNG to the region.
The Paderewski began operations in the first half of 2025 in Asia and returned to the region just a few months later with an LNG cargo from the U.S., boosting the efficiency of the company’s trading operations.
– “Cooperation with reliable partners such as Osaka Gas allows us to create lasting and effective relationships in the global LNG market. We hold a contract portfolio of around 6.5 MTPA for the coming years, giving us flexibility and the ability to deliver cargoes to the most promising markets. Transactions such as the delivery to Japan are a natural element of executing our strategy to strengthen our trading position and confirm our growing role in the global LNG supply chain,” said Robert Soszyński, Vice President of ORLEN.
For several years, ORLEN has been systematically building LNG capabilities by investing in port infrastructure, an LNG fleet, and trading offices in key global locations. The company is also developing LNG trading functions, enhancing its international position and enabling real-time responses to global market needs.
Osaka Gas, with more than a century of tradition and a strong position in Japan, is a key partner for building further trade relations in Asian markets. The first contract marks an important step in executing ORLEN’s international expansion strategy and highlights the Group’s growing importance.
