ORLEN and Naftogaz Sign Agreement for Future Gas Contract, Securing 300 Million Cubic Meters of U.S. LNG for Ukraine

ENERGYORLEN and Naftogaz Sign Agreement for Future Gas Contract, Securing 300 Million Cubic Meters of U.S. LNG for Ukraine

ORLEN and Naftogaz have signed a preliminary agreement outlining the terms of a future contract for gas supplies. Under the agreement, the Polish energy company will deliver over 300 million cubic meters of gas to its Ukrainian partner. The gas will come from U.S. LNG supplies received by ORLEN. The agreement was signed during a conference organized by the Atlantic Council on transatlantic energy cooperation, attended by Poland’s Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka and Deputy Minister of Energy Wojciech Wrochna.

“Poland plays an extremely important role in supporting Ukraine and other countries in our region that are directly or indirectly affected by Russian aggression. Today we are demonstrating the effectiveness of our actions. This agreement enables the import of a significant volume of gas from the United States to Ukraine and paves the way for further initiatives of this kind, which may also support other Central and Eastern European countries. I would like to thank everyone involved in this process,”
said Miłosz Motyka, Minister of Energy.

Robert Soszyński, Vice President of ORLEN for Operations, emphasized the significance of the agreement:

“The ORLEN-Naftogaz agreement, which sets the terms of a future gas contract, is an important step toward strengthening the region’s energy security and further proof of ORLEN’s growing importance in the international gas market. Its signing results from the good cooperation between our companies, which has already secured over 600 million cubic meters of gas for Ukraine this year. We fully understand that, in the energy sector, choosing a reliable and trustworthy partner is absolutely essential. That’s why I’m pleased that over 300 million cubic meters of U.S. LNG will flow to our neighbors in the first quarter of next year, and that the total volume delivered next year may reach over one billion cubic meters.”
he added.

“I would like to thank the Polish government for its support, our American partners for their cooperation, and Naftogaz for their trust, which lays a solid foundation for further contracts,”
concluded Vice President Soszyński.

Under the signed Letter of Intent, the contract will cover the supply of three cargoes of U.S. LNG in the first quarter of 2026. The LNG will be imported by ORLEN to one of the two terminals where the company has reserved capacity, then regasified and transported by pipeline to Ukraine. Both parties declared their intention to promptly finalize the commercial terms and sign the full contract. With this agreement, the total gas volume under all contracts with Naftogaz will reach nearly one billion cubic meters.

Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz, welcomed the agreement:

“This is another step in strengthening our strategic cooperation with ORLEN in delivering U.S. LNG to the Ukrainian market, helping us ensure a stable heating season. Today, during the P-TEC conference, we confirmed the key terms and have already begun planning deliveries. The contract, which includes a credit line and insurance instruments, will be signed shortly. I want to thank the Ukrainian government for its support and our partners for their trust.”

Wojciech Wrochna, Deputy Minister of Energy and Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, added:

“Our goal is to meaningfully increase energy security in our region. Thanks to this agreement, Ukraine will receive an additional 300 million cubic meters of gas from the United States. Effective cooperation with our partners allows us to take the next steps toward expanding the Northern Corridor, including an Open Season procedure for a second FSRU, which will further improve our ability to support our neighbors.”

The agreement between ORLEN and Naftogaz was signed during the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TEC) Summit in Athens, which gathered energy ministers from Poland, the United States, Ukraine, and other nations, as well as business representatives from ORLEN and Naftogaz. The summit serves as a platform for coordination and cooperation on regional energy security and collaboration.
