Nearly half of Polish teachers in grades 5–8 used artificial intelligence in 2024, according to the latest TALIS survey. AI is most often used to search for and summarise information, prepare lesson plans and create assignments. At the same time, a lack of knowledge and practical skills remains a major barrier.

Among Polish teachers who said they used AI, 71% used it to gather and synthesise information, 61% to generate lesson plans or tasks, and 56% to help students practise new skills in real-life contexts. Among teachers who did not use AI tools, 75% said they lacked sufficient knowledge and skills.

Free AI course for teachers

The Copernicus Science Centre has launched ZBADAI, an educational project funded by Poland’s Ministry of Education. Its five-week free AI course for teachers will be delivered through the Integrated Educational Platform. Registration is open until 13 September.

The programme covers six thematic modules, including the basics of artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, analysis and creation of multimedia, practical classroom applications, and legal and ethical issues. The organisers also emphasise verification of AI-generated content, especially dates, names and quotations, as well as avoiding the use of sensitive data in prompts.

The project will also include research projects in 200 schools across Poland. Students will use AI as a tool supporting the research process, with the aim of developing critical thinking and more responsible use of technology.

According to NASK’s “Teenagers” survey, 70% of surveyed teenagers had used at least one AI-based tool or system. Education was the most common use case: 48% mentioned learning and 40% homework.
