INDUSTRIESKAS Blocks 70% of Urea Imports from Belarus

The National Revenue Administration (KAS) has announced that it has successfully blocked 70% of urea imports from Belarus. These actions are aimed at protecting the domestic fertilizer market from unfair competition and limiting the economic benefits to the regimes in Minsk and Moscow.

Continuous Oversight and Fight Against Sanctions Evasion

KAS continuously monitors the situation in the fertilizer sector, taking actions to prevent the circumvention of European Union sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus. Recently, attempts to bypass these restrictions by Belarusian entities were discovered.

IN THE CASE OF BELARUS, THE HEAD OF KAS HAS ONCE AGAIN PREPARED AND SUBMITTED A REQUEST TO THE SANCTIONS LIST MAINTAINED BY THE MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS AND ADMINISTRATION (MSWIA). A NEWLY LISTED ENTITY IDENTIFIED BY KAS WAS ENGAGED IN THE ILLEGAL TRADE OF BELARUSIAN UREA, ACTUALLY PRODUCED BY THE BELARUSIAN COMPANY GRODNO AZOT, WHICH IS SUBJECT TO EU SANCTIONS. THANKS TO THE SUCCESSFUL ACTIONS OF KAS, OVER 70% OF THE UREA IMPORTED FROM BELARUS HAS BEEN BLOCKED, AS STATED IN AN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE.

Protection of the Fertilizer Market and Support for Polish Producers

Thanks to the intense efforts of KAS, the import of Belarusian urea has been significantly reduced, bringing tangible benefits to the Polish fertilizer market and producers from other EU countries. Blocking the illegal flow of these products helps protect domestic production from cheap alternatives from Belarus and Russia, which could threaten European competitiveness.

The Problem of Low Gas Prices and Their Impact on European Producers

One of the key factors enabling Belarusian and Russian fertilizers to dominate the market is the low gas prices in these countries, which account for over 30% of urea production costs. This price advantage negatively affects the situation of Polish companies, such as Grupa Azoty, which are struggling with financial difficulties.

Fertilizer Embargo as a Key Step for the EU

Poland is actively calling for the introduction of an embargo on fertilizers from Belarus and Russia. The import of these products not only poses a threat to the domestic industry but may also affect the food security of the entire European Union. Reducing dependence on Eastern suppliers is a crucial step towards increasing market stability and protecting the interests of EU farmers.
