FINANCEHow Much Will Polish Households Spend on Summer Vacations This Year?

As the cost of living continues to rise and economic uncertainty persists, Poles are maintaining a cautious approach to summer vacation spending. In 2025, the average household plans to spend 4,401.70 PLN on holidays—about 67 PLN or just under 2% more than in 2024. On a per-person basis, the average vacation bill will amount to 1,761 PLN, marking a 27 PLN increase year-over-year.

Despite persistent financial challenges, many Poles are planning their summer holidays carefully, adapting their budgets to the realities of current prices. This is one of the key findings of the Holiday Wallet of Poles 2025 report, published by the Polish Bank Association (Związek Banków Polskich).

Holidays Are Getting More Expensive

This year, Polish consumers expect to spend slightly more on summer vacations compared to 2024. The average declared budget per person is 1,761 PLN—an increase of nearly 2% from the previous year. For households, the expected budget is 4,401.70 PLN, which is 67.30 PLN more than in 2024 and a full 1,006 PLN more than three years ago.

“This shows that although the pace of expenditure growth has slowed, Poles are not giving up on their holidays. In fact, they’re planning to spend more than last year while placing even greater emphasis on budget planning and financial security during travel,” explains Dr. Przemysław Barbrich, Director of Communications and PR at the Polish Bank Association.

Tried-and-true destinations continue to dominate vacation plans—such as the Baltic Sea coast, the Masurian Lake District, and the Polish mountains. However, prices in these domestic locations are now approaching the levels seen in popular foreign resorts.

Most Poles Still Vacation Domestically

A majority of respondents (58%) plan to spend their summer holiday within Poland—up 2 percentage points from 2024. Meanwhile, 23% intend to travel abroad (a slight drop of 1 percentage point), 13% will stay at home, and 6% have yet to decide.

Even as vacation costs increase, most people remain wary of borrowing money to fund their summer plans. As many as 60% say they definitely will not take out a loan or credit to finance their vacation, and 22% say they probably won’t. This means a total of 82% of respondents plan to finance their holidays from their own savings—unchanged from last year.

Options for Every Budget

This year’s report includes estimated costs for a one-week holiday for a family of four across three different budget levels: up to 5,000 PLN, up to 10,000 PLN, and up to 15,000 PLN. This allows families to choose the most appropriate option based on their financial situation.

1. Budget Up to 5,000 PLN – Vacation in Masuria (Mazury):
A week-long stay in Masuria can range from about 990 to 3,130 PLN depending on the type of accommodation. To offer a realistic picture of food costs, the report provides sample restaurant pricing: a typical lunch for a family of four costs approximately 275.54 PLN. While many outdoor activities are free, paid options such as rope parks, kayak rentals, and waterparks can add 150–233 PLN to the bill.

2. Budget Up to 10,000 PLN – Baltic Coast Getaway:
In this middle-tier option, the report models a trip from Kraków to Gdańsk by train, with accommodations in a seaside apartment. A week-long stay costs around 4,681 PLN—up from 3,553 PLN last year, representing a 1,018 PLN increase. Food expenses, including restaurant meals and snacks, are estimated at 2,100 PLN (up by 200 PLN year-over-year). Add to that 800–1,000 PLN for attractions like museums, aquariums, or amusement parks.

3. Budget Up to 15,000 PLN – All-Inclusive Abroad:
For families seeking a more luxurious vacation, the report reviews popular all-inclusive destinations like Egypt, Greece, and Spain. A week-long all-inclusive trip for four people costs around:

  • Egypt: 13,580 PLN (up by approximately 4,080 PLN from last year),
  • Greece: 13,923 PLN,
  • Spain: 13,958 PLN (down by a notable 5,828 PLN from 2024).

Summary

While inflation and price hikes are undeniable, they haven’t deterred Poles from planning a summer break. The trend shows a preference for domestic tourism, continued financial prudence, and growing emphasis on budgeting. Whether opting for a modest retreat in Masuria, a coastal escape, or a full-fledged overseas adventure, vacationers are finding ways to enjoy the summer without overextending their finances.
