Investment fund HitecVision has finalized the acquisition of a 50% stake in Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) from TotalEnergies. Following this transaction, PGB—Poland’s leading biogas producer—now operates as a joint venture equally controlled by TotalEnergies and HitecVision.

Founded in 2007, PGB is the largest producer of biogas in Poland. Its portfolio includes 21 operating biogas plants with an annual energy generation capacity of 500 GWh (biomethane equivalent). The company was acquired by TotalEnergies in 2023.

The sale of a 50% stake to HitecVision is part of TotalEnergies’ broader strategy of partially divesting renewable assets to investment partners. HitecVision brings both capital and expertise in scaling energy companies, particularly in the biogas and biomethane sectors. This partnership will enable PGB to achieve its strategic goal of increasing installed capacity to 2 TWh annually by 2030.

“We welcome this milestone, which allows Polish Biogas Group to deliver on our plans to expand energy production. Combining the experience of a global leader in the energy transition with the capital and know-how of one of Europe’s leading renewable energy investors will significantly accelerate the development of our biogas and biomethane projects in Poland,” said Łukasz Semeniuk, CEO of PGB.

About PGB

Polska Grupa Biogazowa (PGB) is the largest producer of electricity and heat from biogas in Poland, holding a 15% market share. The company employs around 200 people and operates 21 facilities nationwide. PGB processes waste into electricity and heat through cogeneration, as well as into biologically valuable fertilizer.

Its annual production capacity exceeds 0.5 TWh (biomethane equivalent)—enough to power more than 90,000 households. By 2030, PGB aims to reach 2 TWh of production, while also expanding into biogas upgrading to inject biomethane into the national gas grid.

These developments will play a crucial role in the growth of Poland’s renewable energy sector and in decarbonizing heat and electricity generation.

Established in 2007, PGB was acquired by TotalEnergies in 2023 and, since 2025, has operated as a 50/50 joint venture between TotalEnergies and HitecVision—combining the strengths of a global energy transition leader with the resources and expertise of a top European renewable energy investor.
