Government Takes Step Toward Fairer Energy Prices for Industry, Says Cognor CEO

ENERGYGovernment Takes Step Toward Fairer Energy Prices for Industry, Says Cognor CEO

“We welcome the decision of the Minister of Energy to establish a Working Group on improving the efficiency of network tariff design. Our voice—both as Cognor and through the associations of which we are a member—has been strongly heard for many years in the discussion on the competitiveness of Polish industry. The newly appointed Working Group includes the Polish Steel Association (Hutnicza Izba Przemysłowo-Handlowa), which represents the steel sector and our company. This means it will have a direct influence on the final recommendations and regulations developed by the Group.

“The directive clearly indicates the need to analyse current rules and the practices applied in other EU countries, including with regard to energy-intensive users. This is a very positive signal for energy-intensive industries and for Cognor. It is also fully aligned with the concrete policy trends within the EU and its leading industrial sectors. We are pleased to note that the government’s approach to industry is becoming more rational and is moving towards restoring the competitiveness of sectors such as steel—sectors that not only form the backbone of the economy but also directly determine the security of us all.

“In recent weeks, we have seen that the mechanisms proposed and implemented by leading European countries to support energy-intensive industries—including those aimed at reducing energy prices—are receiving favourable consideration from the European Commission. We can therefore confidently say that the right path has already been paved, and Poland should follow this direction.”
