COMPANIESEurowind Energy Advances Development of BESS Installations in Europe

Eurowind Energy is moving forward with the next stage of its battery energy storage system (BESS) deployment in Europe. In Bulgaria, in cooperation with Renalfa IPP, the company is developing one of the largest co-located renewable energy installations on the continent. The project includes a 65 MW / 260 MWh energy storage facility, which is planned to be expanded to 315 MW and 750 MWh. The investment is a key component of the region’s energy transition and the development of systems integrated with renewable energy sources.

The current installation in Bulgaria consists of a 65 MW battery storage system combined with a 69 MW photovoltaic plant. Once the expansion is completed, the storage facility will reach 315 MW of power and 750 MWh of capacity, operating alongside a 238 MW solar farm. It will be one of the largest co-located green energy projects in Europe.

Małgorzata Szambelańczyk, CEO of Eurowind Energy Poland, emphasizes that the Bulgarian project confirms both the technical capabilities of the investor and the importance of international cooperation in building large-scale energy parks. The company uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, known for its high safety standards, long operating life, and cost efficiency. At the same time, tests of other cell types—such as lithium-ion, vanadium flow, and nickel–hydrogen batteries—are underway.
