European Union institutions and leaders voiced strong support for Poland after multiple Russian Shahed drones violated its airspace overnight, in what officials described as an “unprecedented” act.

Von der Leyen: “Europe Stands With Poland”

Addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg during her annual State of the Union speech, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the incident a reckless breach of European sovereignty.

“We witnessed a senseless and unprecedented violation of Polish and European airspace by Shahed drones. Europe stands with Poland. We express our full solidarity,” von der Leyen declared, drawing a standing ovation from lawmakers.

Metsola: “Poland Has Every Right to Defend Itself”

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola echoed these remarks, stressing Poland’s right to protect its sovereignty.

“Poland has every right to defend itself against any attack. The European Union is united,” she told MEPs.

Costa: “A Direct Threat to Europe’s Security”

European Council President Antonio Costa described the drone incursion as “unacceptable” and affirmed the EU’s unity in supporting Poland.

“Poland is right to take the necessary steps to defend its sovereignty. We fully stand with Poland after this inadmissible violation of its airspace by Russia,” Costa posted on X.
He added that such intrusions directly threaten the safety of citizens and critical infrastructure across Europe.

Macron: “No Compromise on Allies’ Security”

French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned the incident, pledging full solidarity with Poland. Speaking in Paris, he said he would soon discuss the matter with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

In a message on X, Macron urged Russia to “end this reckless escalation” and stressed:

“France will not compromise when it comes to the security of our allies.”

NATO: “Swift and Decisive Response”

General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO’s top commander in Europe, told Reuters the alliance had responded “swiftly and decisively” to the drone incursions, showcasing its readiness and capabilities.
