On September 29, 2025, during the Warsaw Security Forum organized by the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the war in Ukraine is a common challenge for the entire West. In his view, the outcome of the war depends not only on military resources but also on the determination and faith of societies.
Ukraine and Moldova as Symbols of Resistance
The head of the Polish government stressed that Ukraine has demonstrated its ability to defend itself heroically, which should serve as an inspiration for Europe and the transatlantic community. He also pointed to Moldova, where despite attempts by Russia to interfere in the elections, victory was secured by the pro-European Action and Solidarity Party, linked to President Maia Sandu. According to Tusk, this example shows that faith in European solidarity enables effective resistance to Moscow’s pressure.
“This Is Our War Too”
The Prime Minister underlined that the war sparked by Russian aggression is also a war of the West, as its goal is to enslave nations and limit individual freedoms. He warned that Ukraine’s defeat would have consequences not only for Ukraine itself but also for future generations across Europe and the United States.
Poland and NATO
In his address, Tusk highlighted the need for close cooperation within the transatlantic community. In his opinion, America has the right to expect greater engagement from Europe, just as Europe should count on being treated as a priority by the United States.
The Prime Minister stressed that Poland is consistently strengthening its security by building the largest land army in Europe and allocating nearly 5% of GDP to defense next year. – “Can you count? Count primarily on yourself,” he said, underlining that a strong Poland is a full-fledged NATO member and a credible ally.
The West Should Not Think About Capitulation
Tusk stated that the West holds an advantage over Russia and has no reason to consider capitulation. He referred to historical experiences, comparing the post-war fate of Poland with the tragic destiny of Ukrainian cities such as Mariupol and Bucha.
– “We are doing this not only for Ukrainians, but also for ourselves, for our future,” he said.
Moldova as an Example
The Prime Minister once again referred to Moldova’s recent parliamentary elections, in which pro-European forces prevailed despite pressure and interference from Russia. He emphasized that the Moldovans’ victory was the result of their determination and faith in European solidarity.
