More than half of Polish healthcare institutions assess their digital maturity as medium, while one in five rate it as high or very high, according to a new study by the Centre for e-Health (Centrum e-Zdrowia). The implementation of new technologies is accelerating across both administrative management and patient care. In 2024, 4.7% of healthcare providers in Poland used artificial intelligence (AI)—with hospitals leading the way.
Growing digitization of Polish healthcare
The findings come from the 8th edition of the “Study on the Level of Digitization of Healthcare Entities,” conducted by the Centre for e-Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. According to the report, one in four respondents believe that advancing digitization will positively affect doctor-patient relationships, while more than a third (36.4%) expect it to improve the efficiency of the healthcare system.
“Healthcare systems worldwide are evolving toward full digital integration, with many elements increasingly driven by artificial intelligence,”
said Anna Rulkiewicz, CEO of LUX MED Group, in an interview with the Newseria agency.
“Patient care will look completely different than it does today. Patients will have far more opportunities to be at the center of the system, connected digitally with healthcare providers. Remote tools will allow them to consult doctors, request prescriptions, or access information anytime and anywhere.”
Artificial intelligence enters Polish hospitals
The Centre for e-Health study revealed that in 2024, 4.7% of Polish medical facilities used AI-based solutions. The adoption rate was significantly higher in hospitals — 13.2%, more than double the figure from 2023. The most common application of AI was in imaging diagnostics, particularly CT (computed tomography), used by 33.9% of facilities applying AI tools.
Another 18% of providers use AI to improve patient communication, for example, through virtual assistants or chatbots on websites and helplines. Among those planning to adopt AI in the future, over half (52.6%) intend to start with this type of solution.

Rulkiewicz noted.
“Currently, patients wait in lines for standard consultations. New technologies and AI will not only relieve medical personnel of routine tasks but also bring patients closer to the healthcare system.”
Patient communication goes digital
“Communication with patients is extremely important in our organization,”
said Iwona Radko-Jarosińska, Director of the Patient Experience Division at LUX MED Group.
“So far, our primary communication channel has been SMS, which remains popular. However, technological changes are transforming expectations—especially among younger patients—who now prefer notifications through patient portals or app push messages rather than texts or phone calls. Patients expect communication to be personalized and precise, so we must deliver timely and relevant information.”
AI supports clinical decision-making and diagnostics
The survey found that 16.2% of medical facilities in Poland already use AI to support clinical decision-making.
“Technology will assist medical professionals but will not replace them,”
Rulkiewicz explained.
“The most important and complex decisions will always be made by doctors, but AI can serve as an assistant—suggesting diagnostic paths or helping with medical documentation.”
According to European Commission analyses, AI enhances diagnostic accuracy and enables earlier disease detection, allowing less invasive and more effective treatments. In clinical practice, AI is already used for early detection of sepsis—systems deployed in intensive care units can predict its onset hours before clinical symptoms appear, enabling rapid intervention. Similarly, AI-based mammography systems can detect early signs of breast cancer with remarkable precision, often surpassing human radiologists.
AI is also being applied to create personalized treatment plans, complementing traditional therapeutic approaches.
“AI will support not only doctors but also other medical professionals, such as nurses and physiotherapists,”
said Rulkiewicz.
“Today, physiotherapy is primarily hands-on, but new technologies will enable patients to perform exercises at home with the help of dedicated apps. Medical technologies will help healthcare workers focus on what truly matters for the patient, while repetitive tasks will increasingly be handled by automated systems.”
Efficiency gains and administrative automation
Artificial intelligence can help reduce costs and streamline administrative tasks, such as appointment scheduling, accounting, and electronic medical record management. It can also improve resource management—predicting patient admissions, optimizing bed usage, and ensuring better deployment of staff and medical equipment.
