Data4 has launched a second data centre at its expanding campus in Jawczyce, located in the municipality of Ożarów Mazowiecki. The new facility offers 10 MW of IT capacity and marks another stage in the planned expansion of the investment.
Data4 continues to strengthen its presence in Poland. In 2023, the company commissioned the first building at the Jawczyce campus, and the opening of the second facility represents the next step in that development. So far, Data4 has invested EUR 200 million in Poland. By 2030, the company plans to nearly triple that figure to around EUR 600 million. The expansion of the campus will also involve further cooperation with Polish suppliers and local partners, as well as the creation of new jobs. In total, the investment is expected to generate around 400 direct and indirect jobs.
Digital infrastructure and its importance for the region
Demand for computing power is rising alongside the growth of cloud services and artificial intelligence. According to internal estimates, data centre capacity in Poland could increase from around 300 MW today to nearly 500 MW by 2030, with more than half of that – around 300 MW – allocated to AI-based solutions. In this context, the pace of investment execution and the availability of infrastructure are becoming critical for the competitiveness of national economies.
“Poland is already the leader in Central and Eastern Europe, accounting for more than one-third of the region’s data centre capacity. We want to continue actively strengthening the competitiveness and technological sovereignty of both Poland and Europe. In a world where data and computing power are becoming critical resources, digital infrastructure supports not only the economy but also national security. Investments such as the one in Jawczyce create space for Polish companies to adopt modern solutions and catch up on digital development,” said Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy.
The Data4 campus in Jawczyce is being built on a 4-hectare site. Once completed, the campus will have a total capacity of 60 MW and around 50,000 sq m of gross floor area, including nearly 15,000 sq m of net IT space. The newly opened building is part of this broader plan as another step in the development of digital infrastructure in Poland.
“The expansion of the Jawczyce campus is a clear sign that Poland remains one of Data4’s key markets in Europe. We are developing the infrastructure step by step and in a predictable way, combining high technical standards with a responsible approach to the environment and cooperation with the local community in the municipality of Ożarów Mazowiecki. Stable technological infrastructure is now a prerequisite for the further growth of the digital economy,” said Adam Ponichtera, Managing Director of Data4 in Poland.
“The launch of another building at our campus in Poland is of strategic importance to us. With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and cloud services, digital infrastructure is becoming one of the foundations of the European economy’s competitiveness. That is why we are consistently expanding the Data4 campus network across Europe in response to rising demand for computing power,” said Olivier Micheli, CEO of Data4.
Combining technological performance with sustainability
The new facility is the first project in Data4’s European network to be developed according to the BREEAM standard, one of the world’s most widely recognised building assessment systems in terms of environmental impact. The new data centre has received an “Excellent” certification and is also the first facility of its kind in Poland to be built in line with this standard. BREEAM takes into account factors such as energy efficiency, water management, material selection, emissions and the project’s environmental impact across the entire life cycle of the building.
The building also stands out for its modular container-based construction. Around 60% of the facility was built using prefabricated elements prepared in advance. This reduced the amount of wet works and conventional concrete pouring on site, resulting in lower emissions and a shorter construction period. The solution serves as a reference project within Data4’s European network and points to the company’s future technological direction.
All new Data4 projects are developed in line with the group’s global environmental goals. These include designing facilities to achieve a power usage effectiveness (PUE) ratio below 1.3, using 100% low-carbon electricity, and continuously monitoring energy and water consumption. Data4’s first data centre in Jawczyce, opened in 2023, already confirms the company’s progress towards these environmental commitments. Over the past 12 months, the facility achieved a PUE of 1.27, below the 1.30 target set by the European Code of Conduct on Data Centres for the whole industry by 2030. This means that Data4’s Polish campus is meeting those requirements four years ahead of schedule. The facility also records very low water consumption, with a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) ratio of 0.037 l/kWh IT, below the industry average.
In addition, Data4 is participating in the Climate-Adapt4EOSC project run by the European Commission. The Jawczyce campus will serve as a case study for research into the impact of shrinking and swelling clay soils on infrastructure. As part of the project, together with more than 18 research institutions, including the University of Cambridge, NCSR Demokritos and BRGM, Data4 will test a tool at the Jawczyce campus designed to forecast geotechnical risks linked to climate change. The findings are expected to help better prepare data centres and other critical infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and water networks, for the effects of climate change, while also supporting the design of future investments.
Cooperation with the municipality and local initiatives
Data4 is carrying out the investment in dialogue with the local community and the municipality of Ożarów Mazowiecki. The project is also intended to support the local economy by creating new jobs and working with local partners. As part of initiatives implemented jointly with the municipality, the company will support the renovation of a section of Przyparkowa Street in Jawczyce. The planned works include a complete replacement of the road surface, the construction of a pavement and the installation of modern street lighting, all of which are expected to improve comfort and safety for local residents.
The company is also actively supporting local emergency services, including the State Fire Service in the Warsaw West District, specifically the unit in Błonie, by donating both backup power equipment and tools used directly in life-saving operations, as well as the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Ożarów Mazowiecki. Data4’s long-term presence in the region is based not only on technological development and the implementation of sustainability goals, but also on consistently building relationships with the local community. The company is also involved in cultural initiatives for residents, co-organised by the Jawczyce village council, supporting social integration and community life in the region.
“The development of the Data4 campus in Jawczyce is an important investment for our municipality. We are pleased that this project not only strengthens local infrastructure, but also contributes to the economic development of the region. We appreciate the cooperation with the investor, which translates into tangible benefits for residents,” said Paweł Kanclerz, Mayor of Ożarów Mazowiecki.
