COMPANIESCreotech Instruments Signs New Agreement with European Space Agency for Space Debris Monitoring

Creotech Instruments S.A., the largest Polish space company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, has signed another agreement with the European Space Agency (ESA). The collaboration pertains to a project within the Space Based Observations Mission (SBOM). The goal is to develop a concept for a space mission designed to monitor space debris in low Earth orbit and place a satellite in low orbit by 2028. The preliminary phase of the project, Phase 0-A, led by Creotech Instruments as the consortium leader in cooperation with Sybilla Technologies, is valued at 125,000 EUR, with over 100,000 EUR allocated to Creotech. The work will begin in January 2025 and will last for 12 months.

“As part of this innovative venture, Creotech is responsible for designing a mission to monitor space debris, based on our proprietary HyperSat platform. After the completion of the preliminary phase, we plan to continue discussions with ESA regarding the next stages of the project, including the implementation of the developed satellite,” says Grzegorz Brona, CEO of Creotech Instruments S.A.

The Space Based Observations Mission (SBOM) focuses on observing space debris in low Earth orbit using an optical telescope mounted on a small satellite. The main objective is to identify objects ranging from millimeters in size in low Earth orbit (LEO) to meters in geostationary orbit (GEO), which will allow precise assessment of the hazards associated with space debris, whose numbers continue to grow. This project will enhance ground-based observational capabilities and continue the tasks of the ESA VISDOMS mission within the Space Safety Programme (S2P).

SBOM represents another step in the development of Creotech Instruments’ cooperation with the European Space Agency and in strengthening Poland’s position on the global space technology map.
