Buy Now, Pay Later Gains Ground in Poland: 34.5 Million BNPL Transactions in 2025

FINANCEBuy Now, Pay Later Gains Ground in Poland: 34.5 Million BNPL Transactions in 2025

According to data from CRIF Group summarizing 2025, Poles carried out 34.5 million transactions using the Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) model. A total of 2.1 million people used deferred payments, with the average purchase value amounting to PLN 277. BNPL is primarily used to finance everyday purchases, and the service is most popular among individuals aged 30–40.

Deferred payments (BNPL) are becoming an increasingly popular tool for managing daily expenses. CRIF’s statistics for 2025 confirm this trend. Poles opted for this form of financing 34.5 million times, with more than 2.1 million unique users actively using the service. The total value of BNPL financing reached nearly PLN 9.6 billion, while the average obligation stood at PLN 277.

“The relatively low value of individual transactions confirms that BNPL is treated as a convenient tool for managing household budgets and paying for purchases. This is evident not only from the relatively small average obligation amount but also from the growing number of users. In 2024, there were 1.7 million users; a year later, that figure rose to 2.1 million. If deferred payments are being used on such a large scale, it means that we perceive BNPL as a convenient, short-term, interest-free loan. Poles’ openness to this payment method stems from their familiarity with online transactions and trust in the tools offered by retailers,” says Kamil Gosławski, Head of Banking & Insurance at CRIF.

PLN 1 Billion in Financing in November

Poles’ use of BNPL increased steadily throughout 2025. In January and February, deferred payments were used 2.2 million and 2.1 million times, respectively. Interest then grew systematically – in June, the number of transactions exceeded 2.8 million, and in September it surpassed 3 million. The highest level of activity occurred in November, when Poles made 3.7 million BNPL payments.

November also saw the highest monthly total financing amount – over PLN 1.1 billion – and the number of unique users exceeded one million in a single month for the first time.

“We have observed an autumn surge in BNPL activity for several years. It is a special time of year, with students returning to school, Black Friday and Black Week promotions, and the approaching holiday season. However, in 2025 this spike was much stronger than in previous years. This is evident from the number of financing inquiries recorded in the CRIF and ERIF databases. In November alone, there were around 1.5 million inquiries – double the number recorded in the same period of 2024. In December, however, the number of BNPL transactions returns to normal, and we observe a stable seasonal pattern in the databases we manage,” explains Kamil Gosławski.

Who Buys Now and Pays Later Most Often?

The dominant group using deferred payments in 2025 were individuals aged 30–40, accounting for 37.2% of all BNPL users. They also generated the highest total financing value among all age groups, exceeding PLN 12.8 million. The service is also popular among younger consumers. Poles aged 25–30 accounted for 15.24% of all users, with total obligations amounting to PLN 5.26 million. The youngest consumers, those under 25, represented 12.65% of users, with financing totaling PLN 4.37 million.

BNPL is also increasingly used by people aged 50–65, who accounted for nearly 9% of users, with total financing of PLN 3 million. Seniors show the greatest distance toward BNPL – individuals over the age of 65 represent just 0.92% of the market. The value of their obligations was also the lowest, at PLN 318,000.
