Bumech SA Enters Defense Sector with Strategic Partnership with South African Armored Vehicle Manufacturer

COMPANIESBumech SA Enters Defense Sector with Strategic Partnership with South African Armored Vehicle Manufacturer

Bumech SA, a company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW), has announced the launch of a new chapter in its business operations—diversifying its existing portfolio by entering the defense industry. As part of its strategic development plan, Bumech has signed a letter of intent with South Africa–based OTT Technologies, a globally recognized manufacturer of armored vehicles. The agreement aims to establish production of armored vehicles in Poland, targeting uniformed services across Europe. Negotiations are currently underway to finalize the terms of the cooperation.

The collaboration is structured to enable Bumech Group to initially conduct vehicle assembly using components supplied by OTT. In the next phase, the company plans to transition to full-scale production based on raw materials and parts sourced within the European Union. The partnership includes technology transfer, joint design work, and technical support from OTT during the production setup phase. Target markets include Northern and Central-Eastern Europe, the Baltic and Nordic countries, and the Balkans. The initiative aligns with Poland’s strategic goal of enhancing domestic defense capabilities.

“This is a breakthrough moment for us,” said Michał Kończak, Vice President of the Management Board of Bumech SA. “Using our resources, infrastructure, and newly acquired know-how, we are entering the rapidly growing defense market. Cooperation with OTT Technologies opens up new opportunities, allowing us to offer Europe proven, now locally manufactured military solutions. In response to growing defense needs and the government’s push for reindustrialization, we are optimistic about the reception of our future products manufactured in Polish facilities.”

Production of HMMWV-Type Vehicles for the European Market

Under the agreement, Bumech Group plans to produce licensed versions of modern four-wheel high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs) for the European market. According to data from last year, the Polish military alone is estimated to need around 3,000 such vehicles1. There is also growing demand from border guards and the police.

OTT’s current vehicles are modern, multipurpose combat vehicles with high mobility and advanced protection features. Equipped with some of the most powerful drivetrains in their class, they can operate in difficult terrain and meet EN1063 ballistic and STANAG 4569 anti-mine protection standards. These vehicles can serve multiple roles, including as weapon carriers with various turret types, armored personnel carriers (APCs), police vehicles, patrol units, or command platforms—making them a versatile solution for armed forces and security services.

OTT vehicles have already passed field tests, received NATO certification, and are ready for production. As part of the partnership, selected vehicle models will be redesigned—particularly drivetrains and engines—to comply with European standards. This “Europeanization” process will also include integrating EU-sourced components, with the goal of having over 70% of vehicle parts produced within the EU.

First Units Expected by Q1 2026

“Serial production will begin in Bumech’s manufacturing facilities, which will be adapted for the new operations using our existing machinery,” Kończak stated. “We plan to sign the license agreement with OTT Technologies by the end of October this year. Our goal is to complete the first three prototype vehicles in assembly mode by the end of Q1 2026. These will be used for trade fairs and demonstrations to secure contracts across the European market.”

Kończak emphasized that partnering with OTT Technologies marks Bumech’s entry into an entirely new business segment. The expansion into defense manufacturing will be a central element of the Group’s new strategic roadmap.
