Black Friday Through the Eyes of Poles: Are November Deals Truly Worth It?

COMMERCEBlack Friday Through the Eyes of Poles: Are November Deals Truly Worth It?

The last Friday in November, known as Black Friday, is a time for store promotions and the symbolic start to holiday shopping. Polish customers also participate in Black Friday – as shown by the Provident Barometer, as many as 46.4% of surveyed respondents believe it’s an opportunity to buy cheaper Christmas gifts.

Although almost half of the surveyed respondents within the Provident Barometer consider buying holiday gifts during Black Friday to be cost-effective, merely 30% of Poles agree with the statement that prices on Black Friday are significantly lower than the rest of the year. Younger respondents rate Black Friday deals the highest – among people aged 18-24, as many as 36.3% consider November discounts more attractive than other promotions throughout the year.

“Black Friday is an opportunity for many people to purchase previously spotted products, but for less money. Certainly, preparing a list of things we plan to purchase at promotional prices can help us keep Black Friday expenses in check. This way, it will be easier for us to limit ourselves to truly necessary products and not to fall for promotions on unnecessary gadgets,” says Karolina Ɓuczak, Spokesperson for Provident Poland. As many as 36% of respondents claim that they only buy targeted items on Black Friday. Interestingly, discipline in this matter is definitely the domain of respondents under the age of 35. Approximately 47% of them claim that they limit themselves to buying only previously selected products– notes Karolina Ɓuczak.

As many as one in five respondents admit that they sometimes regret purchases made on the last Friday of November, with about 5% confessing this happens to them often or every time.

However, Poles are reluctant to return items hunted during Black Friday promotions. As many as 41.8% of respondents claim that they never returned products purchased on Black Friday. One in five respondents rarely do so, and 11.5% sometime. Meanwhile, 5% declared that they are usually not satisfied with promotional purchases and often or always make returns.

“Approach November promotions wisely and responsibly – after all, the benefit of promotional prices should help us save money, not overly strain our budget. The basis is, of course, a shopping list, it’s also worth setting a specific budget that we can allocate for this purpose and stick to it. Then we can afford to buy something that was not planned earlier, but within the amount that will not overly strain our wallet – emphasizes Karolina Ɓuczak. Unfortunately, this precautionary measure does not always help us avoid unwanted expenses. 11.5% of respondents admit that they often or always exceed the previously set amount, and 22.1% say that it happens to them sometimes – she adds.
