Mewo—already the largest private Polish company providing research and survey services for the energy sector in the Baltic Sea—has the potential to grow into a regional leader and become a global supplier of integrated seabed and ocean data in a market worth billions of dollars. This could be the outcome of a capital injection from Vinci, a fund within the BGK Group.
The company’s investment program, supported by public capital, is expected to generate a multiplier effect in the economy: opening Poland to new markets, creating contracts and jobs, and mobilizing numerous partners and subcontractors.
However, the benefits of this investment will not be purely economic. It is also expected to enhance the security of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, while the data collected by Mewo could be applied in the field of defense.
“Thanks to public capital support, the company’s investment program has the potential to open Poland to new markets, generate contracts and jobs, and mobilize a wide range of partners and subcontractors. The benefits of this investment will go beyond the economic dimension: it will strengthen the security of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, and the data collected by the company will also find applications in defense,” said Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy, during the signing ceremony of the investment agreement between Vinci (BGK Group) and Mewo aboard the research vessel Amber Cecylia.
Poland Among Emerging Leaders
As noted by Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, who also attended the event, strategic investments of public capital in companies such as Mewo give Poland an opportunity to join the ranks of regional leaders in research and survey services. They also enable participation in the European subsea services market for the offshore sector, which is expected to be worth approximately USD 15 billion by 2030.
“This is a historic moment, as a Polish company gains the opportunity to become a global provider of integrated data on seabeds, waters, and marine infrastructure, with potential dual-use applications—both in civil projects and in defense,” the Ministry of Infrastructure representative emphasized.
Growing Importance of Local Content
Mewo is the largest and most technologically advanced private Polish company providing research and survey services for the energy sector in the Baltic Sea. It is also an independent leader in monitoring critical infrastructure in the region.
The company participates in all offshore projects within Poland’s Baltic Sea zone, with a total value of approximately PLN 80 billion. It has completed more than 125 survey and research projects in the Baltic Sea, including for PGE, Orlen, and Gaz-System, with a combined value exceeding PLN 750 million. Through its activities, Mewo has contributed to increasing the share of local content in offshore wind energy.
A Strategic Investment
Vinci, through its dedicated fund supporting mature and high-potential companies, has invested PLN 62.5 million in Mewo.
“The Vinci investment aligns with BGK’s strategic objectives, which include supporting innovative and scalable Polish technologies and developing a knowledge-based economy. Through Vinci, BGK can support a company with the potential to become a global ambassador of Polish technological expertise while strengthening areas critical to public security,” said Mirosław Czekaj, President of BGK.
He added that Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego aims to reach approximately PLN 13.5 billion in equity investments by 2027.
International Expansion
The PLN 62.5 million investment will be used to double Mewo’s research vessel fleet, increasing it to six units.
“We will invest Vinci’s capital in next-generation specialist equipment, including underwater robotics, as well as in the development of cutting-edge digital infrastructure,” said Paweł Gajewski, CEO and co-founder of Mewo.
The Amber of the Digital Era
Bartosz Drabikowski, CEO of Vinci, emphasized that the fund’s mission is to support mature companies with proven business models and ambitious growth plans.
“Our goal is to retain top-class engineering, research, and management teams in Poland, while encouraging companies to build their business, research, and operational centers here and manage their international expansion from within the country. By investing in Mewo, we are supporting the creation of unique data on the condition of seas and oceans—Poland’s ‘amber of the digital era’—which perfectly aligns with our strategy,” he said.
He added that Vinci acts as a minority investor, allowing existing shareholders and founders to retain majority control and continue executing their development strategy. This principle also applies to the investment in Mewo.
Ambitious Plans
CEO Paweł Gajewski stressed that the company’s goal is international expansion, initially into the North Sea, Black Sea, and Mediterranean, and after 2030 also into the Indian Ocean.
“We aim to become a regional leader in subsea services and a global provider of integrated data on the condition of seas and oceans, with annual revenues reaching PLN 300 million,” he concluded.
The total value of Mewo’s strategic investment program will exceed PLN 130 million. It is also worth noting that in December 2025, the company secured PLN 4.9 million in funding from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) under the SMART program to enhance its service capabilities.
Together with Vinci’s capital injection, this represents a strong example of cooperation between Polish development institutions under the “Team Poland” initiative, supporting the international expansion of Polish companies.
