SECURITYArtificial Intelligence in the Polish Armed Forces: A New Strategy Until 2039

On March 3, 2025, a briefing on the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Polish Armed Forces took place in Legionowo. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, as well as Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense (MON) Cezary Tomczyk. During the meeting, the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center within the Cyber Defense Forces was announced.

Strategy for Artificial Intelligence Development Until 2039

The Minister of National Defense emphasized that the establishment of the Center is part of a long-term AI development strategy, which he signed a few weeks earlier. The strategy covers the period until 2039, with the next five years being crucial for Poland’s position in innovation and defense technology.

“To properly protect Poland, investments must be made in security at various levels—the best aircraft, tanks, air defense systems, and the most well-trained soldiers. However, one of the key elements of defense is information protection and data analysis. It is in cyberspace that the battle for sovereignty and security is fought daily,” stated Kosiniak-Kamysz.

Role of the Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center

The newly established Artificial Intelligence Implementation Center will operate under the Command of the Cyber Defense Forces Component, led by General Molenda. Its primary objective will be to implement AI technologies in key areas of military operations, including:

  • Analysis of intelligence and reconnaissance data,
  • Development of autonomous combat systems,
  • Decision-making support and logistics optimization,
  • Verification and implementation of available AI technologies for military applications.

The Center will also be responsible for cooperation with industry and academic communities to ensure synergy in activities and leverage the potential of Polish experts in AI and cybersecurity.

Poland at the Forefront of AI Technology

Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk highlighted that Poland is focusing on innovative solutions that will provide strategic advantages in cybersecurity and defense. He also pointed out the increasing number of cyberattacks—an average of 5,000 annually—targeting Polish military networks.

“Artificial intelligence is the future, but the future begins now. We must be a leader in AI implementation in the armed forces. Some of the best programmers in the world are Polish, and we want them to develop their skills domestically, contributing to the creation of modern technologies for the Polish military,” emphasized Tomczyk.

The Ministry of National Defense underscores that in a few years, no modern army will be able to function without artificial intelligence. Therefore, Poland is consistently building its competencies in this field, ensuring that its military is prepared for the challenges of the future.
