COMPANIESAction Grows 17% Year-on-Year in Q1 2025, Nears 3,000 Stores and Expands into Switzerland

Non-food discount retailer Action reported a 17.2% increase in net sales in the first quarter of 2025, reaching €3.5 billion, compared to the same period last year. Like-for-like sales growth stood at 6.2%. The number of weekly shoppers rose to an average of 19.7 million, up by 2.9 million year-on-year.

The company opened 49 new stores during the quarter, bringing its total to 2,967 locations across 12 countries. Action continues to pursue its ambitious goal of opening at least one new store per day in 2025, aiming for around 370 new stores by year-end. The company anticipates surpassing the 3,000-store milestone in Q2 2025, an occasion it plans to celebrate with customers, employees, and partners.

Consistent Growth Amid Global Uncertainty

Action CEO Hajir Hajji stated:

“The beginning of 2025 has been marked by global uncertainty and instability. In this context, we continue to see consumers choosing Action for their daily and household needs. Our unique value proposition – quality products at the lowest prices – combined with our progress in sustainability, is driving strong growth across all markets. This was evident again with the overwhelming response to our first stores in Switzerland.”

Expansion into Switzerland

On April 5, Action officially entered its 13th market by opening its first store in Switzerland, located in Bachenbülach near Zurich. The debut attracted huge customer interest and posted record-breaking sales on the first day, with strong results continuing in the days that followed. This promising start mirrors the company’s successful entries into other markets.

Following Bachenbülach, two more Swiss stores have already opened, bringing the current total in Switzerland to three. Additionally, Action plans to launch its first store in Romania in the fall of 2025.

Recognition in France

On April 3, Action was named “French Consumers’ Favorite Brand” for the third consecutive year, confirming the company’s strong brand recognition and customer loyalty in one of its key markets.
